Key Responsibilities

Studio Setup and Daily Operations

  • Prepare studios ahead of bookings, including setting up and breaking down lighting, grip, backdrops, and general equipment

  • Reset studios promptly between bookings to a consistently high standard

  • Repaint coves after each client booking where required, ensuring a clean and professional finish

  • In-house set-build which involves painting walls, flats and props for clients when required.

  • Restock toilets with essential supplies and ensure bathroom areas are clean and presentable

  • Restock teas, coffees, and related consumables in studios and communal areas

  • Ensure studios are fully ready, presentable, and functional for incoming clients

Studio Maintenance and DIY

  • Carry out regular studio maintenance including sanding, painting, patch repairs, and general upkeep

  • Proactively identify maintenance issues and resolve them efficiently

  • Maintain tools, materials, and work areas in a safe and organised manner

  • Work collaboratively with studio management on fresh studio improvements

Cleanliness and Presentation

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all studios, communal areas, kitchens, bar areas, toilets, and storage spaces

  • Ensure studios remain clean and tidy throughout the day, not only at changeovers

  • Take ownership of the overall look and feel of the studio

Client Support and Problem Solving

  • Act as a main point of contact for clients during bookings

  • Proactively anticipate client needs and respond quickly to requests

  • Resolve unexpected client issues calmly and efficiently as they arise

  • Maintain a professional and welcoming atmosphere at all times

Desirable

  • Experience working in a photographic studio/set environment

  • Experience with stock control or equipment logistics

  • Hospitality / Barista Experience

Food and Drink Service

  • Work closely with the in-house chef to ensure food is delivered and served on time

  • Answer basic client questions regarding food service and timing

  • Prepare coffee and hot drinks using the studio’s barista bar (no prior experience required, training provided)

  • Clear food and drink promptly after service and ensure all areas are left clean and tidy

  • Loading dishwasher with cutlery and utensils. Hand washing food platters at the end of the day.

Team Leadership and Freelance Management

  • Manage, supervise, and train freelance studio assistants

  • Allocate tasks, set expectations, and maintain consistent studio standards across the team

  • Lead by example and ensure freelancers understand workflows, safety procedures, and client service expectations

Equipment, Stock, and Deliveries

  • Carry out regular stock checks of studio equipment, consumables, and maintenance supplies

  • Order supplies as needed and flag shortages in advance

  • Manage incoming and outgoing equipment deliveries, ensuring items are correctly sorted for the appropriate client

  • Coordinate client deliveries and collections, ensuring equipment is checked in and out accurately

  • During quieter periods, assist with creating equipment quotes, preparing rental lists, and updating inventories

Role Overview

The Head Studio Assistant is a hands-on role responsible for the smooth day-to-day operation of the studio. The position combines studio setup, regular maintenance, cleanliness, client support, food and drink service, freelance team management, logistics, and problem solving in a fast-paced creative environment.

This is not a specialist lighting or photography role. Assistants support studio setup and general operations rather than providing technical lighting expertise.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong DIY and maintenance skills, including regular painting and surface preparation

  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high studio standards

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Confident and professional in client-facing situations
